A common question is what is the difference between the GE Lexan Polycarbonate and Polygal Polycarbonate. They are manufactured by two different manufacturers and will have slightly different qualities (light transmission, R value, U value, Shading coefficient, solar heat gain coefficient and solar reflection). Basically, it has been our experience that for greenhouse glazing purposes they will perform comparably with the exception of the GE thermoclear plus which has a higher warranty and should out perform the others.

GE Lexan Polycarbonate

This product line is manufactured by GE. It includes corrugated, 6mm twinwall, 8mm twinwall, 8mm thermoclear plus, 10mm twinwall and 16mm triplewall polycarbonates in bronze, opal or clear. Also available are specialty sheets 8mm Solar Control.

Polygal Polycarbonate

This product line is manufactured by Polygal. It includes corrugated, 6mm twinwall, 8mm twinwall, 8mm triplewall high clarity, 10mm twinwall, 16mm triplewall polycarbonates in bronze, ice or clear. Also available are specialty sheets 8mm and 16mm Polycoolite, Spring and Rainbow.

The reinforced polyfilm will be more expensive initially than 6 mil 4 year greenhouse covering, but it will pay off in the long run. The reinforced cords will keep any tears from spreading too far. It has excellent longevity.

Greca corrugated polycarbonate is an excellent material for greenhouses or other applications. It has all of the excellent qualities of polycarbonate.

Solexx sheets are an excellent choice for a small project. Solexx is twinwall, but the plastic is flexible enough that it can be rolled and shipped UPS. This will save on the more costly manner of shipping polycarbonate.

Polypropylene is an inexpensive alternative to polycarbonate. It is UV protected and also carries a ten year warranty.

Twinwall and triplewall polycarbonate have been the most popular glazing choice for hobby greenhouses for years. Its strength and dependability lend to its desirability. It is available in different thicknesses.

Polycoolite, Spring, Rainbow and Lexan™ Solar Control are all specialty polycarbonates. They all have different features which will help to cut down on heat.
